For many years I worked as a Biofeedback/Hypnotherapist at Oroville Hospital in Oroville, CA. Helping people reduce stress & relieve symptoms of disease was rewarding. I am now a Real Estate Agent helping people find or sell their homes. Volunteering my time and knowledge with AccessHome is a natural step for me in my desire to help others.

Having seen how much time is involved in building a home I am also intrigued how new technology is being utilized by AccessHome like the 3D home printing process.

I gained interest in AccessHome through my association with a retired board member. Recently I read about the AccessHome program that will develop a plan of action to enable homeless to be assessed for their needs; mental and physical, and assist them in acquiring housing. I have the opportunity to be part of a team to provide economical housing and allow clients to move forward to a stable presence.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois, in August 1956, and I am the oldest of seven children. While attending Northeastern Illinois University, I spent two years working as a lifeguard for the City of Chicago on Lake Michigan. From 1979 to 1983, I worked as a flight attendant for United Airlines before moving to California and beginning my career with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in January 1983. Over the course of my 28-year career with the CHP, I served in a variety of assignments throughout California, including Ontario, San Bernardino, Inland Division Headquarters, Mt. Shasta, Redding, and Sacramento. My responsibilities included overseeing specialized programs involving tow trucks, ambulances, school bus inspections, CPR and weapons instruction, child safety seat installation, and human trafficking interdiction. I also served as Northern Division Public Affairs Coordinator and later as Departmental Field Public Affairs Supervisor at CHP Headquarters, where I helped develop traffic safety programs and oversaw the application process for Office of Traffic Safety grants. I retired with honors from the CHP in June 2011.
In 1992, my wife, Kathy, and I were married, and we have two adult children, a son and a daughter. Kathy had a rewarding career as a registered nurse in a hospital operating room before retiring in 2018. Throughout my career and retirement, community service has remained important to me. While living in Mt. Shasta, I volunteered as a youth baseball coach and served on the High School Senior Project Review Committee. I was elected to the Redding City Council in November 2020 and served a four-year term. Today, I continue to look for opportunities to give back to the community and support organizations that make a difference in the lives of others

My name is Stephen B. Bell and I am honored to be part of the Board of Directors for Access Home.
My life and career have always focused on service- from my 28 year career with the California Highway Patrol, to my appointment to the State Council Developmental Disabilities to working locally with Far Northern Regional Center and Shasta County Special Olympics, being engaged with meaningful work has always been my goal. I’m proud of the work that has been done- yet I know there is still a lot of work to be done- and I want to be part of that- Building things that matter and making a difference.
